i would say they are a very well balanced SQL sub.

they are very clean, very accurate...and they get very loud for the amount of power they are given.

they are DD's most popular sub:-)
ask the dealers.

i am not sure what mine is hittin...prob low 30's at most.i only have 1 10". lol

also i don't care how loud it is...only how well it sounds and whether or not the mids and highs blend well with the bass...i am out of the SPL stage. :-)

get either...they will both sound awesome.

it all depends on how much power you can give and howmuch space you have to work with.:-)

i am not sure about that one Kebo...but i know it will be louder with around 1800-2000wRMS.:-)

the 2500's will do well with anywhere from 500-1500wRMS -- clean power

and the 3500's will do well with 1000-2000wRMS -- clean power...although there isn't much more wattage to throw at the 3500's..they have a stiffer suspension...so they can be put in a bigger box...and they have more throw than the 2500's:-)

you don't have to tune it to 40hz...it is just what they recommend b/c it is what they consider the best all around tune in a car.:-)

i would go with this:

http://www.ddaudio.com/dd/caraudio/enclosureInfo/boxSize_hiEff.asp

that should give youan idea as to how much box you want or need.
remember..the more box...the less tight the bass will be....so don't build a huuuuuuuuuuge box and then complain about it not sounding good...i hate people like that. lmao!
