I would put it in a high interest savings account with WWW.INGdirect.com and net 4.75% on it untill I needed it.
A house is a fantastic investment, I knew you would say that Chad:-)

a lot of the companies with the high interest rates arent american based so they don't have restrictions on them. There are a few good one's in the upper 4's but I have only used ING. They are very good and if you have some extra cash to throw in a savings account you might as well give it a try. Hey Matt where do you get 3% from?

Yes a house is the single most profitable investment. I bought my first house for $122,000 and sold it 3 years later for $172,000. The house I have now I paid $128,000 for and could sell it for $189,000 only two years later!! That's over 100k profit on two properties in 5 years. Tell me now where else are you gonna make that kinda $$ with no risk??

I remember that ING Direct company about 10 years ago boasting a 6.75% rate. Slowly over the years it's been dropping. Sucks doesn't it? Credit card companies try and justify a 22% interest rate while banks pay back only 2%. There's a credit card out there that has a $500 credit limit which is equall to what you deposit in their account. A $100 anuall fee, %25 interest rate, application fee, transaction fees, and the worst penalties around, on your $$!!!!!! Just opening your account puts you in debt and eliminates any available "credit" on your own money. It has got to be the best example of consumer fraud there is. All leagal, and suckering people in every minute, just to get that piece of plastic that makes you look financially responsible. Ironic, isn't it?

if the $35,000 is just extra cash just laying around the house begging for me to use, then this is what i would do.

down payment on chrysler 300..................$15,000
22" rims and tires...............$6000
audio system................$9000

the remaining $5000 i would buy a round of kicker cvrs for my buddies on ecoustics.

That's why I don't even consider interest bearing checking or savings accounts. It just isn't worth the hassle. I'm happy with my bank, free checking, no minimum, free online bill pay, weekend hours. Getting .25% is a joke, unless you have $1,000,000 in there!

yeah Paul I hear you, but if you go with online savings accounts they dont have the processing fee's and all the USA standard APR limitations. Yes ING was up there but at that point so were cd's. When I started ING it was 3.95 now 1 year later my rate is 4.75:-) interest rates are going up so take advantage and jump in if any of you guys have some extra cash floating around in a worthless .25% APY account.

I get those offers from ING every so often. Can you really set it all up online? How about access to your funds?

I reccomend it Paul. As far as access for your funds it takes 2-3 business days to transfer funds into your bank account of your choice. I have transfered back and forth plenty of times, no penalties. It is a highly reccomended account, and now I think if you start up an account with as little as $25 they will match your $25 so you will deposit $25 and have $50. Go to www.ingdirect.com and sign up for a orange savings account it's quick and painless:-)
