do amps simply lose potency after time? like a tested amp at a certain wattage, after time, will its power start to diminish?

quote:

Over time many problems can begin to present themselves from everyday use.
These problems are not the typical "repair", but they can cause just as many
issues:

-Capacitors can begin to breakdown and leak, thus causing many intermittent problems
-Heat sink compound will begin to dry up, thus causing the unit to not dissipate heat properly
-Connections and solder joints can begin to weaken and crack, thus causing noise, excess current
pull, intermittent problems, or total system failure

some components like capacitors can degrade over time, like 5 to 10 years, but really with solid state amplifiers it's not that big of an issue, and you won't see any noticeable power loss.
This was more of a concern in days gone by when dealing with vacuum tube amplifiers.
