Underpowering subs harmful?

I'm currently saving up for an amp that can power both my Type S 12s, and all I have is a really weak Power Acoustik amp that is about 400 Watts too weak to power both my 12s.

I've heard this before, but I was wondering if it would be harmful to power my subs with an amp that is too weak for them?

So underpowering it will cause it to clip?

if you have control then no, but if you try to turn it up way beyong the subs and amps limit with teh designated power then yes chances are you will cause your amp to clip.

So basically, if it doesn't sound like sh1t, I won't hurt them?

If no clipping is present(usually from turning the gain to high), then you'll be fine.

clipping is when the Amp doesn't have enough (input)power to make said output power.:-)

so it clips the top and bottom of the wave off and sends it with more power to the sub.:-)

clipping = sounds like friugreglfshntgnrehtv instead of boom. boom. bboooooooom. booom. boom.

get it?:-)
