i recently blew the right woofer of my kappa 680.7 components (6x8) and i could use some help with what to replace them with... im looking for sound quality and a less "bright" speaker than the kappas, they sounded harsh to me
im looking to spend about $200 shipped on ebay and i was thinking i would use a bracket speaker adapter and get 5 1/4's - i had these few in mind...

Get the JLs.

By the way, the Kappas are 2 ohm speakers, meaning you were running them at 120w RMS, and they can only handle 90w RMS...no wonder the right one blew.

actually the amp specks say it runs at 90 rms at 2 ohms which should have matched just right, but i guess not...

but why the jl's, only 125 watt peak kinda throws me off

cause the jl's are a nice sounding speaker and peak power doesn't mean anything.

Where do the specs say 90w RMS @2 ohms? I only found one place that said that, and it has to be a typo.

When an amp puts out 60w RMS@ 4 ohms, at 2 ohms, the resistance is cut in half meaning twice the power goes to the speaker-120w RMS. I can't find a place that will give me the output ratings at 2 ohms. They must be assuming the consumer will know it does 120w @ 2 ohms or something.

*** will running 2 ohm speakers in the rear and 4 ohm speakers in the front be a problem????/are the XR's worth the extra $$ over the VR's??***

Yeah, that's the same link I found, and I don't believe it....oh well, you won't be running your speakers at 2 ohms again so it doesn't matter :P

The XR's are definitely worth the extra money over the VR's.
