Gold Member Username: BlainewPost Number: 1455 Registered: Nov-05 | they arent busting any myth if there using this sub...engine powered sub... |
Gold Member Username: BlainewPost Number: 1456 Registered: Nov-05 | nevermind...its just decibels... |
Silver Member Username: J_baby15Kentucky Post Number: 501 Registered: Feb-06 | Thats what im thinkin. I guess they jus seein how much pressure break a car apart. I dont see that thing playin a sound. They dint even have it in a box, it was jus a screwed to a huge board. |
Gold Member Username: Basshead86Google is your Friend, FL Post Number: 4515 Registered: Aug-05 | 161.3 at 16hz!!!!! |
Silver Member Username: J_baby15Kentucky Post Number: 505 Registered: Feb-06 | Very impressive. But i dont think it lived up to what i was expecting. They kinda cheated, but thats jus me. |
Silver Member Username: SplmonsterNowhere, OH USA Post Number: 344 Registered: May-06 | it was also a 55" sub lol, and diesel powered, yea that is amazing, i wish it woulda blew some windows tho lol |
Silver Member Username: J_baby15Kentucky Post Number: 508 Registered: Feb-06 | Oh yea. and on those big vehicles that completely sealed off, where do they run the wire to the TL from inside to out? Do they jus put it thru the door and close it? |
Silver Member Username: Yamahabanshee1Paulding, Ohio USA Post Number: 377 Registered: Jul-04 | ya tahts amazing to hit 161.3 db at 16hz! and it popped the sunroof off trakc! DANGET! |

Gold Member Username: JakeyplaysbassSt. Louis, MO Post Number: 1394 Registered: Jul-05 | i think they should have taken more time for box design and the actual acoustics of a car rather than just making a speaker and powering it. just my thought. 161 still whips my 15s lol. |
Silver Member Username: Van_manBoston South, MA Post Number: 807 Registered: Mar-06 | Watching it in slow mo, it was the "sub" that broke loose and smashed the sunroof out. Not the DB levels. They should have taken a procomp system that was known to hit high numbers, park it next to the junker, run new speaker wires from it to a bunch of 18's. and try it then. They seem to be cheating latly on the show. Wasnt there some body on here a while ago looking for help cause his Sony 10" kept blowing out the rear window of his buddys jeep? |
Silver Member Username: J_baby15Kentucky Post Number: 512 Registered: Feb-06 | HAHA. Yea i remember that guy. He claimed that the 'pop' when he cut his car off busted his window out. It was pyles, not sonys. LoL. |

Silver Member Username: DjbeanpoleNaptown, Indiana USA Post Number: 261 Registered: Nov-05 | Damn thats a HUGE woofer... pretty tight too. Equivelent of what did it say? 160 10" woofers. Sweet... as far as the show goes I didn't get a chance to see it because I had third shift at work, but I've seen some of the shows and they take a more scientific approach to their research rather than a practical approach. What I mean is that unlike most of us who would want to see them put a sub in a box and supply it with some juice to see if it blows windows out, they probably did what they could to ENSURE a blowout (or at least probable conditions for it to happen). So its not that they "cheated," they were just testing it hypothetically using the good ol' scientific method. It would have been pretty sweet to see the windows go out, but you'd need to discover the windows resonance frequency, and a whole ton of other factors become involved as well. Hell if it was me I'd stick a sub in a glass box and let that blow up... sucks I missed the show |
Silver Member Username: Wolfman1966WEST MONROE , LOUISIANA USA Post Number: 331 Registered: Jan-06 | THAT is the kind of sub they should have used on Mythbusters....I would say that they missed it on that one, the myth was definately NOT busted. Their "subwoofer" only lasted 10 seconds... now I do agree 161.3db is loud, but in my opinion, they did NOT use a real subwoofer. They definately need to revisit this one...maybe wire up a bunch of 18's with enough power to them....how about what those guys did on that video where they hit 171 (I think) and cracked the door off of the car. something like that. I was really disappointed |
