How exactly are you powering it? Grounding it shouldn't be a problem if you use a good power supply. http://cgi.ebay.com/Astron-RS-35A-13-8-VDC-35-AMP-Regulated-DC-Power-Supply_W0QQ itemZ290004583925QQihZ019QQcategoryZ48708QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

(+) and (-) binding posts in the back for the amp.

Though that is a good concept...Don't use a car battery in your room. That's very dangerous-especially because of the toxic hazards.

If anything, just use the battery charger as your power supply.

The negative cable is the ground. When you ground a cable in a car, you're essentially just connecting it to the negative terminal of the battery, since the negative terminal of the battery has a wire going straight to the car's chassis (sorry if you already knew this, I'm just clarifying things).

Hook up the negative terminal of the amp to the negative battery cable.

Yep, and you also need to hook up the remote wire of the amp to the positive battery charger cable.
