New member Username: Raider0689Post Number: 9 Registered: Jun-06 | haha i know. i was just on a time constraint. because i ordered it through a friend that got me a greatttt deal. and if i didnt get it then i would have spent over $600 more. |
Gold Member Username: Chaunb3400Huntsville, Alabama U.S. Post Number: 7794 Registered: Jul-05 | that whole deal is only worth around $150-175..... |
New member Username: Raider0689Post Number: 10 Registered: Jun-06 | ?? no idea what you are talking about. i work at circuit city. the exact package that we have that i bought, costs $935 (including wires install, etc.) for the general public. the MSRP for the sub alone is $349.95 |
Gold Member Username: Chaunb3400Huntsville, Alabama U.S. Post Number: 7797 Registered: Jul-05 | why do u think nobody on this fourm buys from circuit shitty???? Way overpriced for the trash u get....and the MSRP means nothing....u should no that....since u work for them......and i really hate it for anybody who pays for an L5..... |
Bronze Member Username: Raider0689Post Number: 11 Registered: Jun-06 | ??? they are the exact same subs that you can buy from a liscensed dealer. there is no difference in what you buy, just who you buy it through. i dont see any problem with the kickers. they are great subs. yeah they are way overpriced, but that dosent mean that they are bad subs. i see that you have many kicker products in your inventory? many mids, highs and amps? but there is no way that you could get a kicker 400.1, and L5 12, and a kicker box for $175. all new. (ebay sure, but there is no way that i would purchase something off of there because of how many of my friends have been on the wrong side of luck) |

It sounds as if you were looking to see if anyone else had the same combo and wanted to see how it worked out for them. I have a pair of 70 watt subs. Yeah 70 watt. No they are not high efficiency drivers, so they do not get loud to make up for the lack of power they can recieve, so they are not like the others on this forum. Trust me you will be much happier with your purchase after you get it completely dialed in. Get a good box and set the gains just right, and I am 100% positive that if you have a well set up system, you will not be shunned by others with a louder system. Loud is subjective just as quality is subjective. You may be totally impressed with your setup after all. By the way, there are much better buit, and louder subs out there than L5's. If you are still unhappy after you set up your system. Get a new username here at ecoustics and ask for advice. Read www.bcae1.com and learn about this hobby. I am 100% certain that you can do better than your proposed setup even for the money. |
Gold Member Username: MixneffectOrangevale, Ca. USA Post Number: 1035 Registered: Apr-05 | Ross, The L5 comes in either 2 ohm DVC or 4 ohm DVC. Either way, they still require 600 watts RMS to push them to optimum output. The ZX 400.1 only puts out 400 watts RMS max at 2 OHMS. So right off the bat your amp is not powerful enough to run you subs to optimum levels. It doesnt matter how you wire your subs or which voice coil configuration you have. That amp is not big enough to power your subs period. I think that was your initial question. What you need to power that L5 is 690 - 720 watts RMS at the resistence load you plan to wire your subs at. You will need that extra 15-20% more power for headroom. That way you will not overwork your amp. Personally, it might be better off for you to sell those items and read up, study, learn, and get a complete new system. If you decide to come here and ask for advice, you may find that there are a lot of educated and experienced people here at Ecoustics. You may want to try a different approach tho. Start with a budget. What type of vehicle you are putting this system in? What equipment do you already have in it that you may want to keep? What type of music you listen to? Last but not least; Do you want it to sound crystal clear (SQ), or would you rather compromise SQ for loudness (SPL)? |
Bronze Member Username: Raider0689Post Number: 12 Registered: Jun-06 | THANK YOU. thats what i was looking for. right now i have a 2000 4Runner. i really dont know exactly what i need. the reason i went with kicker is because of course i work at circuit city. major discounts on those. the only problem now is that i am not allowed to sell the amp for a minimum of 6 months. kicker wont let me. but yeah as i said i really dont know exactly what i need. i would rather have the subs more on the loud side. (in my opinion of what we had at the store, the kickers were a good compromise in loudness and clarity. which is why i chose them over MTX) i apprecieate your help |

Bronze Member Username: Raider0689Post Number: 13 Registered: Jun-06 | i am not supposed to sell it but i dont think it matters because i dont have to register it with kicker. i can sell the amp later for alot more than i bought it for. |
Bronze Member Username: 30hrtzRaleigh, Nc U.s.a Post Number: 47 Registered: Mar-06 | ross, i got a 10 inch L5, 05 model on a kx600.1.it pounds very well.put your 12 in a slot ported box, they are more efficient than sealed.that will help with the slight under powering amp.call kicker tech support or just use the specs that came with the sub for the box.you should be able to get more consistant power to your sub with the 400.the 600 makes my volts drop in my truck,i had the 400.1 and it didnt.the 600.1 is louder than the 400.1.so if your not satisfied go w/the 600.I love my L5,wish i had room for 2. good luck. |
Gold Member Username: Dustin3Tigard, Or U.S. Post Number: 1604 Registered: Oct-05 | ross, i already talked to you about this... i told you that ur underpowering it and that you need an amp that does 650 +. you can go for the kx600.1, or you can get a cheaper amp like an audioburn a8000t. either one of those will make it pound, prolly the audioburn one though because it puts out a lil more power, but then you sacrifice volume so u dont blow them. i would have picked a couple of cvr's instead of that l5. they get loud but have no sq at ALL!! i also was going to buy an l5 back in the day and then i heard my friends and didnt like it. They are also real easy to blow (so waht i have heard) and have more stress points because of the square design, causing distortion. the amp you choose should def not be the kicker 400.1 |
Bronze Member Username: Raider0689Post Number: 16 Registered: Jun-06 | ok. well right now i have the 400.1, i think im going to go ahead and put it in with 850 watt rated wire just in case i want to go for more. i will probably upgrade later to the 600.1, but for now i think ill be alright. (this is my first car stereo sub upgrade, so to me anything will be nice) IF i do go with the 400.1 how should i tune it? i have an eclipse cd3000 hu....' what about for the 600? |
Bronze Member Username: 30hrtzRaleigh, Nc U.s.a Post Number: 48 Registered: Mar-06 | tune the box to 38hz.itll be good for all music and hit hard.my 10 has been tuned at 40hz for a year.tuning on the amp doesnt matter.i had the 400.1 set the same as i got the 600.1.just play with the sttings on the amp and hu until it sounds like you like it.just get a good quality slot port box built and youll be good to go.should hit in the mid 130s. |
Bronze Member Username: Raider0689Post Number: 18 Registered: Jun-06 | alright. yeah i have a kicker box. the 06vs12L52 yeah to show everyone how new i am at this stuff i have another question. how do i tune the box??--the kicker. |
Silver Member Username: StnorrisEldridge, IA US Post Number: 446 Registered: Apr-06 | lol you dont. u need to build a new box. |
Bronze Member Username: Raider0689Post Number: 19 Registered: Jun-06 | haha ooh alright. well to be honest i dont even want to deal with all of that right now. i have the money for it, its just that after what i have heard about the quality of what i bought. im not sure i will want it for a veryy long time. so i dont want to invest a ton of money into it until im sure its what i want. if i keep the kicker box, how should i tune the amp? some say that it makes no difference and others say its a big deal.... |
Silver Member Username: CtmikeCt. Post Number: 862 Registered: Feb-06 | match the gain to your hu pre out volt, i'd leave the bass boost off, lpf about 80-100, and set the ss to the tuning of the box. |
Bronze Member Username: Raider0689Post Number: 20 Registered: Jun-06 | ok. ill try that. thanks! |
