The impendence load placed on the amp will vary based on the frequency being played and the box design. Profesional SPL competitors will wire amps down to .5-.25 ohms. They can do this because the frequency they burp at and the box design allows this with out instantly frying the amp. I would never reccomend dropping below an amps rated impendence capabilities in a daily driver setup. Especially an amatuer like yourself.
