How do i set the gain on my amplifier to match my headunit. i have a pioneer headunit and under the subwoofer it shows it goes up to +12db. on my hifonics amp what knob should i turn to do this. would it be a bass EQ knob that goes 0db- 18db or level that goes 9Vto 0.2V

don't boost the sub output. boosts just create distortion.

figure out the pre out voltage for the HU and turn the amp gain to that voltage, if its marked. if not you can use a DMM and this formula:
Sqrt (watts RMS X Load)
match the AC voltage at the amp output to the result. measure with the speakers unhooked though.

honestly, i say play some music you usually listen to, start with the gains turned all the way down, then turn them up till you either hear distortion or have enough bass presence for your tastes. whichever comes first.

yea, the HU is 4 volts, so set the gain on your amp to 4 volts.

Set the gain on your amp a little higher (actually the number will be lower - but turn it clockwise) than 4 volts, that way it'll be at max volume, before your HU reaches output distortion.
