Capacitor?

I have 2 12" kicker subs in my grand am with an 1000w amp. I've been noticing that i can't crank them loud with using a lot the the battery (i.e. interior lights dimming) or i have to wait a while to let the alternator charge the battery up. Would a capacitor fix this? or any other ideas?

No. A cap will not fix the problem. The only way to fix this problem is to get a High Output alternator.

the lights don't dim while driving, only in park.
I'm just worried about using all my battery up. so what would a cap help with then?

when the cars on its not using the battery thats all alternator and lights dimming means that the alt cant keep up so your only option is a ho alt

caps are ment for power factoring corrections they just make everything run smoothly basically but you need the proper electrical system to begin with

he only has 1000 watts. a capacitor could smooth off his voltage rails. Mark how big is your factory alternator?

go to autozone or orieleys and tell them u need an exact replacement and then ask how many amps it is. with 105 amp a capacitor will help.

I think so. It will not however help if you drive around wil the music full blast all the time. For that there is no other alternative but a high output alternator.

I would suggest buying an Optima yellow top, and wiring that as a second battery, in your trunk right next to your amps. This will give you some reserve capacity to keep you bumping while you are stopped (for short periods of time such as a red light.) While you are driving your alt should be able to catch back up, as long as you give it time to recharge in between songs full blast.

This is somewhat complicated to make sure it is done correctly and if you don't know much about it I wouldn't recommend doing it, because it could create many more problems for you.

The only way to do a permanent, proper fix, is to get a ho alternator.

So, from what i read, a capacitor helps with the sudden voltage from a big boom. And an alternator with a high amperage will just give me more power while driving. is this correct? So there really isn't anything i can do to prevent alot battery use while in idle or park?
