Strange Occurence

I have a shitty head unit... but for the longest time it worked perfectly. It is a jensen, low quality. But, it worked for about a year before i decided I wanted to replace the stock speakers. After I did it, the system started to act up in the way that it would power up normally, and it would show that it was registering the signals ( the little equalizer bars were bouncing ) but no music comes out. Then, I turned off the stereo, and about 30 seconds later this hissing, popping sound comes out, and i pressed the power button when it was done, and it worked perfectly, no loss of sound quality or anything. So for a few weeks ive been doing it that way... it's not a huge problem but it is pretty annoying some days. Seems to work a little better now that its warm but I don't know what to do and I'd really appreciate any advice I could get.
thanks

Oh yea, i hooked them up myself, so dont put it past a simple wiring mistake, considering i am a hardcore noob at this stuff ;) .
