What are some things that could happen if you set the gain to high? Or too low? Also, there is no way of finding out if you set the gain at 4V, just turn it up till' you hear some distortion.

setting the gain too high (or too sentitive, or lower voltage), the volume on your deck might be 1/4 of the way up and you might be pushing your amp too much and clipping it.
setting the gain too low (or less sentitive, or higher voltage), you might have to push your deck to max volume (which is not good) to get decent enough sound.
