I drive a really small 2004 acura rsx.. I have a new alpine 12" type R 1242D which is a 500W sub with a 1500W peak. My amp is a new alpine mrd-m605 600w rms amp. I have a ported box for lower bass. yeah thatll sound good.the type r is very good sub.but youre wrong about getting lower bass with a ported enclosure.itll be louder but not lower.to get lowness you need to put in a big sealed box.
