I have 2 sets of Infinity kappa 50.5cs 5-1/4" Components running on an old alpine 25wattx4 amp
it is a mrp 256 flex4.
My question is, will a better amp with say 100x4 sound much better?
I am constantly looking on ebay for a mcintosh 100x4 amp. would an amp of that caliber really make a big difference?
Thanks,
Jason

it'd make the system louder by a factor of about +6dB which is about 2/3 again what you have now.
Not quite twice as loud.
The McIntosh may be a bit cleaner, but if you'll be able to tell in the ar? Hard to say.
That McIntosh amp will cost you about $1,500 used. you know that, right?
That's probably on teh low side, too.

Zapco's C2K 4.0X may be a better solution for a 100wRMS x 4 @ 4 ohms solution.
That amp retails for $1,799 but I saw one on eBay for $650

I see the mcintoshs go for as low as 400 on ebay.
Not often but I have seen it.
Is it worth getting an amp like the mcintosh or zapco for my kappas?
I mean do you think there will be an audible difference?
Perhaps somewhere inbetween?
Maybe a kicker kx800.4?
or the jl 450/4
would be in order.
Thanks.

the JL or Kicker may be a better bet.
especially if you're not going for an all out balls to the wall competition system set up for pure SQ and show.

Although if you can even find the McIntosh 50x4 or 75x4 for $400, and it's in good shape, grab that.
heck, they are gorgeous amps.

You mean like this.

Those were on my watch list.
occasionally I see them go for a bit less.
You are right though I think these would be overkill in my offroad vehicle.
I think I am going to go for the kicker.
Thanks for the input.
