i talked to soundstorm ( the brand of my amp)

and they said that to adjust my gain...just turn the music up and put the gain to where it sounds good and no distortion..and i said well doesnt it need to be matched to the voltage of the head unit...and he said dont worry about that just put it where there is no distortion

is this what i should do...ive heard so much about how u must be careful with the gain.. but will i be okay if i do this...

also i have a bass control knob..what should that be set to while adjusting the gain..soundstrom told me 25 %..any other opinions??
