hey i was wonder, on the powered for sound website (http://powered4sound.com/) they carry double shot snail shell boxes. im running two 12" vega VMAX currently in a sealed box behind the seat of my truck with a JBL BP600.1.

i might be getting a new vehicle, (ext. cab ranger) and was lookin to put a box in the extra cab. the subs require 2.6cu.ft per sub for a ported box. do you think the quality would drastically change? i have heard that VMAXs actually get better SQ out of a ported box.

should i stick with the sealed or change to a ported since i have the room? id really like clear sound over muffled bass. thanks!

anyone have any reviews on powered 4 sound custom built snail shell boxes? for $400 i would hope the sound would be awesome.

well ss boxes i heared make subs more efficiant, so they'll be louder, and i heared from ppl that they increase sq also but its your opinion. my friend who has 2 shocker sigs upgrade to ss boxes from his custom ported boxes and gained 6dbs just by switching boxes so yes they do help, but imo they aren't worth the $400 plus.

Do you even have the formula for a snail shell enclosure? Cuz unless you have the formula, good luck.

interested indeed. how much would it cost me and have you made many of these in the past? theres plenty of room for the box in the ext. cab truck and im not looking to allow people to sit there so space isnt a problem. do you have any photos of previously made boxes by yourself?

You can't just build a snail shell.....
each snail shell is specifically designed to the subs parameters following specific formulas.

i wasnt talking about a snell shell, just a normal slot port tuned to the recomended frequency on the cerwin vega

would a properly tuned ported box be as clear sounding as the sealed i have now? SQ is more important to me than SPL, just wondering if both could be increased. heres a pix of the box im using now http://www.topedgeonline.com/detail.aspx?ID=7389

sealed boxes offer better SQ! a properly built ported box will not "lack" SQ but it will not be on the level of a sealed box.

Ryan, if SQ is more important than SPL sealed is what you want. but that's not to say you can't achieve great SQ through a ported enclosure.

It also depends on the subs t/s parameters as to which box would properly suite the sub
