Exceeding xmax

It it normal for a sub to exceed xmax? Is it damaging.Cause I seen a lot of peoples sub that seemed to be exceeding its xmax.Take for example my pioneer 306 its xmax is 9.4mm and i seem to be crossing an inch sometimes.

yes, its ok for a sub to exceed xmax...but you dont want the sub to get close to xmech. (mechanically limited excurion)

xmax is the linear movement of the coil. when a coil remains linear, the SQ is better. the more outside of linear movment the coil gets, the SQ suffers.

Oh ok so xmax is linear movement of the coil with good sound quality.

no. not necessarily. that would be dumax.
