i dont know what spl or sq means, but im guessing your talking about bass vs sound quality. he wants it to be more about bass, but at the same time he still wants good sound quality. but yea hes wanting the bass over the sq.

subs...2 12" re se or 2 12" alpine type r

amp....orion-1200d or kicker kx1200.1

for a budget of 600-800 dollars those would be my choices.

I would say stick below around 600w RMS if he's keeping the stock alternator.

What kind of room are we talking about? does he want 10,12,15? 1 or 2?

well, what Chad said would be a good choice... but he'll want to consider upgrading his charging system, not a capacitor...

you could do 2 12" kicker comp VR's and an orion 600d. One of my friends did that, it gets pretty loud and sounds good.

the kx1200.1 will draw over 100amps at RMS .. That is probably about what his alternator puts out, it leaves no room to run his car...

anywhere from $200 up. Probably around $300 for an alt that puts out around 200amps which is about what you'd need.

the 3.8 engines come with a 105 amp alternator, may have an optional 120 amp. thats if he has the big package. I love those engines....
