I am a illiterate when it comes to car audio first of all. I would like to know if I was going to purchase the subwoofer listed above if the anp that should go with it would be one that could run 1000W RMS @ 2 ohm? What type of gauge wiring would I need and recommended box?

A DVC 2 ohm sub can be wired to a 1 ohm load in parallel or a 4 ohm load in series.

The sub is 1000 watts RMS so you would need an amp that puts out 1000 watts RMS at 1 ohm or 4 ohm.

What does it mean to wire and amp to a 1 ohm load in parallel or a 4 ohm load in Series?

Why not just get one that runs at 1000W at 2 ohms?

The gauge of the wire would depend on the current draw of the amp.

And 1.5 cubic feet for a ported box.

http://www.speedsound.com/caraudio.asp?pg=products&specific=jngmgqnoo

doesnt say anything about sealed but im guessing around 1.1 cubic feet.

A DVC 2 ohm can only be wired to 1 ohm or 4 ohm thats just the way it is.

ok check it out. DVC means dual voice coil. Each coil has a impendance of 2 ohms for your sub. In series the impendances of the coils are added together so series would be 4 ohm. In parallel the impendance becomes half of one of the coils. So in parallel it would be 1 ohm.

a dvc 2ohm sub means each voice coil is 2ohms so when wired in parrell it makes a 1ohm load and when wired in series it makes a 4ohm load. and 2 good amps to power that sub would be kicker kx1200.1 or RE 12.1

This is helpful http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/wiringwizard.asp

Just imput the info. In your case 1 sub and DVC 2 ohm and it will show you diagrams of the possible ways to wire it.

So which amp would you select one that pushes 1000W @ 4 ohms or one that pushes 1000W @ 1 ohm?

how much do u want to spend, the RE 12.1 sells for 390 shipped, which would make a perfect amp for that sub.

It would be much cheaper to get the amp to run for 1 ohm.

No it will say on the specs if it is 1 ohm stable or not. If it is then thats what it was designed for.
