My boss's son just got a 1940 chevy coupe and the cd player in it is really screwed up. After you hook it up it will allow you to turn it on for an instant, just long enough for it to drop or raise the display, it will not do anything else. It shuts down and won't do anything till you disconnect it and reconnect it then it does the same thing. It won't respond to the remote and won't open up the unit controls. I really need help on fixing this to get some brownie points with the boss, the sooner the son has a cd player the happier he will be.

Where are you testing it?

Have you checked all of the speaker connections in the car?

Then there's no doubt it's an internal component that needs to be resoldered or replaced...you might try ordering a service manual and going from there.
