Just something to do when you have free time :-) Post what was your first setup when you got into car audio, was it some good stuff because you did your research or something incredibly bad because you had no clue what you were doing? Pics would be cool, but just let us know what you guys started out with.

Heh, time for me to emberass myself.
Very first setup was when I was 15, I did it for my sisters car and it had 2 12" Xplodes with some old kenwood amp. The box was "sealed" allthough it leaked air out of every possible hole and was covered in God knows what, no carpet or nothing :-)
My sis later took it out about 2 weeks later, but yeah... that was deffinately something fun to do :-) YOUR TURN!

an alpine pull out, alpine 4", alpine 6x9's, alpine 5 band eq with a coustic amp pushing two phantom 12"s.

what are phantom 12"s? two of the worst sounding circular items you have ever laid ear to, from the civic center "electrical blowout" in atlanta. costed about 45.00 with the box. i had to hold open the trunk on my 320i with a saw blade because the subs couldn't be heard through the steel partition in the trunk (still get laughed at to this day for that one). the 6x9's pounded though :-)

this is circa '89, mind you.

first installed or first owned?
my first installation when i was like 14 on my cousins s-10. a 98 s-10 he had a alpine deck, mtx amp, and 2 infinity references... that really is what kicked me into car audio even though i had been doing decks and little sh!t since i was like 12 lol.
my first owned system was in my eclipse, i got the eclipse when i turned 15, and hooked it up before i got my learners, I spent more money on it then I did on the car before I eve had my learners lmao.
i had new head-back exhaust, mod chip, k&n cold air intake, all new stuff like spark plugs and lil stuff, shaved the spoiler and got coilovers and dropped it 2 inchs. system - 2 jl audio 10w3's in a prowedge box, pioneer amp 800 watt I think (max) (before i knew what everything was =X), alpine deck, had all that for about a year or so then got a speeding ticket and had to sell my car, sold the system with that and everything... did get a good lil penny for it all though.

i didn't know much about car audio at first(like when i bought my HU and speakers) but i had someone who had really good taste in audio pick it out for me, and i said it was too expensive, but he said to save your money and do it the right way...glad i listened.:-O
didn't even know what kind of sub i had when i first bought it. lol

My first system.....i got some MTX thunder 4500 12's from circuit city....a Kenwood cd player....i don't remember the model but it was a 99 dollar special...had one rca out!! and a Jensen amp i got from sears for cheap.....400watt MAX amp. all this in a lincoln continental....that was the time i used the plywood to build a box....never did that again!! it sounded horible just cuz of the box. i changed the box out to 3/4 MDF sealed and it actually sounded decent....for a 500 dollar install...but it was kinda imbarrising compaired to what i know now. i was 15 when i did that....and i am almost 22 now!

I had:

2 12" Old school Rockford subs (still have them)
Stock hu
Little old sony 4 channel amp bridged

Later upgraded to a Kenwood 2 channel amp with a old pioneer HU, lol, if you even want to call it an upgrade.

These old Rockfords are the sh*t though, they have taken years of abuse and clipping and they still work good, havent hooked them up in a while though.

hmmm
first system was in my 280ZX when I was about 17. had 6x9s in back, 4" in front, on an older two shaft kenwood cassette player (this was in the 1980s remember)

after I sold that car, I bought a dodge shadow and had a pioneer CD player, kenwood component set in front, two 8" tubes inb ack (SAS), three coustic amps, and passive crossover networks. that was in 1989.

after that I built the festiva.

My first system was:

-Pioneer Cd Deck (still got it, awesome one)
-(2) Pyramid 10" subs (350RMS each)
-(1) Cuspid 1200 watt MAX Amp (only did 80X2 RMS)
-stock 5.25 speakers in doors

Later "Upgraded" to 5.25" Sony speakers, which I blew twice within a couple of weeks. Got fed up, traded the speakers in for a sony amp that would give me more power to my subs. That was more of a furnace than an amp, lol. That thing got SERIOUSLY hot. That ended up burning out and my subs got toasted. Got rid of the works of it and bought a MTX setup, sold that, than bought a RF amp (quite pleased) and an infinity sub in ported box. I have a long way to go, but it sure beats my first system!!

My older bro bought brand new back in 1982 a Pioneer Cassette Deck & matching Pioneer GM120 2 chan amp - threw that in yrs later along with a couple of Phillips large 12" 3 way Home stereo boxes (about 10x14x28") & that was a system . We really worked that Pio deck/amp & boxes ALOT - & up to now we still have em all & still functions fine .
