I assume this means high crossover slopes AND a low crossover frequency make for a component set that will work well in stock locations. Also what is considered a low crossover point (possibly 2khz)?

Generally, yes. A 6.5" usually starts beaming close to 2.5khz, so if you have a set that crosses over around that point you will have good off axis response in that respect. The rest will depend on how the tweeter is installed in relation to the mid. You'll want the tweeter close to the mid to give good off axis with shallow slopes. With high slopes the same applies, but you can get away with the tweet being further away since there is less interference between the drivers.
