alright well about 2 years ago my step dad helped me out with my system (not really a system(walmart stuff)) and the speakers i got were like 1/4" too big for the door and he cut up the metal and now when i just got some infinity ref speakers they wont fit so (ill probably get bashed on for this) but he zip tied them in because thats pretty much all we could do and there is a little bit of open edges around the outside of the speakers so the door isnt completly sealed... well anyways one of my speakers just blew today and i was wondering if that was part of the reason? they were getting about the right amount of power, maybe underpowering them just a little bit.

They didnt blow because they were rattling helplessly against the ziptied door frame (lol, had to get that out) They blew because you were well into distortion. Your HU was clipping a sending DC to your coils. (If you have an external amp, then that was clipping)
