okay, well i've been playing around with the numbers.. is there anything else I need to pay attention to when creating the box? or can I simply "play" with the numbers until i find the right internal volume and port length for the tuning frequency i want?

Play with the nos (but keeping the internal volume constant) until u find it will fit in your car's space but use the manu rec freq that your sub came .

is there a good calculator online? i've been using http://www.carstereo.com/help/Articles.cfm?id=31

when i enter the volume, that is the total minus the port volume right?? so in order to keep the internal volume constant, i must increase/decrease external demensions according to the port area?

to calculate internal box volume, you must deduct whatever the thickness of your mdf, or whatever you are using, off of each dimension

for example of you are using 3/4" mdf, you would subtract 1-1/2" of of each measurement.

then you multiply all of those measurements together and divide by 1728, b/c that is the total # of inches in a square foot.

your box's internal volume is: 34-1/2" x 18-3/4" x 15"

your box's internal volume is 5.615ft3

you might have already known that, but you also have to take into consideration the displacement of your sub in the box.

hope this helps in your calculations:-)

1728, b/c that is the total # of inches in a square foot.

*that is the # of inches in a cubed foot*

12 x 12 x 12 = 1,728

muddy, thanks

but when i endter that in a calculator, such as
http://www.carstereo.com/help/Articles.cfm?id=31

do i enter the 5.615 or 5.615 minus the port area?

also, how do you do length when it's an L shaped vent inside the box

i plugged in some #'s on that website and i think the 5.615ft3 box is tuned to 27hz.

i put the correct width and height measurements in the port calculator (4" x 15"), and then played with the # of hz until i got around 31" deep.

so when I enter the volume on that calculator, it's the TOTAL volume of the box (volume of the port included

hmm? with what? I haven't sued that site's calculator. if it asks for gross volume, that's before sub and port displacement.
net volume would be after adding in driver disp and port vol.

the total volume of the box with the deminsions that you have are 5.639 cu.ft. @ 28.84hz

is that what you were looking for?
