Car stereo speakers and live music

I collect live shows (mostly soundboard quality), and I'm upgrading my speaker system in my 2004 BMW 325i wagon. I recently installed a Kenwood EZ700SR receiver and with a budget of $1000-1500, what component speaker systems do you recommend to get that feeling of being at the show? Besides the speakers, do you recommend any other equipment? Thanks

Depends on what you want, do you want upfront "in your face" rock concert type of sound, or more of a smooth, jazz club characteristic?

"Smooth, jazz club" sounds about right. I mostly listen to blues, reggae and jazz.

dynaudio, rainbow, or similar for components, and use an amplifier for them.
place them into fiberglassed kickpods for good imaging

Do Focal speakers fall into the above catagory? Thanks for the response.

They're more forward. They're clean, but not as transparent as you'd get from Dynaudio, DLS, Morel, Rainbow, and similar sets. They can sound very good, but they're brighter, and lean more to punchy bass and an aggressive tweeter.
