Ahh, it might be pretty close. That is a 105 amp alternator on there for the basic grand prix. Do 1000/12 which is about 83 amps, not including your 10 for a aftermarket HU (stock is less) so 93... you will be pushing it, if you don't run it all the way up alot you should be fine though. Just test it out.

I know somebody that has system that consists of 1800 watts rms and is using a stock alternator (90 amp) and battery. His lights don't dim and he has never had to jump start his car (1991 Dodge Stealth). Then again, he doesent listen to his stereo @ full blast at all times either, but he does listen loud enough to where his ears have to readjust. My 1989 Mustang GT on the other hand needed an alt. upgrade desperatly after installing 1600 watts rms.

I'm running 1400w (ORION) in a GMC SONOMA with a stock 105 amps alternator for over 1 year, you don't have to upgrade until it fails.
but i have a yellow top and a power cap, no dimming lights.

What size alternator does he have? LOL.

Anyone know how many actual watts those Lightning Audio amps put out?

If the current isn't available, how the heck can the amp draw it? If a system had a true output of 4000w RMS, it would require a very large alternator.
