Mixing 10 and 12 inch Subs?!

Unregistered guest
Hey guys, i was wondering if i were to get a 10inch and a 12inch sub if it would sound good together or if it's just not good to mix them..? I listen to a lot of hard hitting songs and i
like quick, hard hitting power outta my subs but i also listen to a lot of rap, and would want a sub that could hit deep and hold the beat for a while. Im almost positive on gettin a 10inch image Dynamics, but if i was looking to add another sub later on, would this be a good idea?

why not just get the 12" ID now? You can mix and match subs of different sizes but that would take a lot of planning and careful use of crossovers and EQs to do it right. Also, people choose not to use this approach because its unpleasing asthetically, especially if you only have one of each.

In short, no. When you mix subs that are so close in size they tend to sound unaccurate. You could probably get away with a 10 and a 15 or 18 if you set crossovers correctly but a 10 and 12 probably wouldnt work too well together.
