Problem with 'getting the sound out'

I cant get the sound "out of the storage" area in my boat. When I open the hatch, it sounds beautiful. Closed, it is very quiet. I had a similar problem with a '90 Accord years ago.

I have a Rockford Fosgate http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/ez2rockford/ModelInfo/ModelInfo.asp?Item Key=10065585&CategoryDesc=Punch%20Subwoofers (P312D4) woofer, and a P6001bd amplifier for it http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/ez2rockford/ModelInfo/ModelInfo.asp?Item Key=10063527&CategoryDesc=Punch%20Amplifiers

So I am fine on power. The box it is in is very well built, and sealed completely (no port, I dont want boomy sound).

Anyhow, some of you wanted to see some pics to help me get the sound out. I can not mount the speaker top side for obvious reasons, but just wanted some ideas. Thanks in advance!

BTW... somebody mentioned to me that a 5th order box would be perfect for this scenerio. Any truth to this?

what you really need to do is vent the car's trunk to the cabin area to couple the air so the sound gets through.
same with the boat.

it's not a matter of box type so much as a matter of the subs being isolated from the listening area.

with those pictures, you can see I really have no way of 'venting'.

Any truth to this 5th order box helping out?

i say if you want bass i would go with band bass box so the subs dont get wet and for higs i would use horns... i know people will not like what i have said but people will for shure hear you.

sub cant get wet were it is located, unless the boat sinks. Highs and mids are fine.

Not worried about somebody hearing me, I just want the sub to 'catch up' with the mids and highs....

the boat is too small to take advantage of a horn. if you just want it louder with mroe gain and you're not worried about how deeply the sub hits, sure, go with 4th or 6th order bandpass enclosures.

what would a 4th or 6th do? The sound is below deck, and the sound waves are down there. How does a box change get the sound waves out? Not being a d!ck, but do you have experience with this type of problem or just guessing? I dont want to make a new box and get simular results.

mark, dont question glass! lol, but i beleive a 4th or 6th order will just let the subs waves reverberate quite a bit more before reaching you allowing for the waves to get a ltitle bit louder. for instance, i knwo that in my friends toms car with 2 12 inch w0s i hear him coming from a while away, but when he gets to a certain point, the close he gets the quiter it gets

pfft

basically a 6th order box provides an enormous amount of gain.. so you're jsut making the box a lot louder with a given amount of power to more or less overpower the problem.
If you can't vent to the listening area, you just have to either move the subs, or make them loud enough to be heard.

if you have teh space, you could go sealed, and fiberglass them into the area where your other speakers are.. then you don't need the power and volume or the overly large and complex 6th order box
