Im thinking about jsut attaching the + to the power wire for my amp and just run a small 18 guage wire back to the - on the battery. will that work? |

Bronze Member Username: FirlefanzPost Number: 39 Registered: Jul-05 | @ Jace, if i understood right, this would mean the fans will run constantly. At the + terminal of the amp you constantly have power. When the remote gives the signal to the amp, power is allowed to run thru it. Just go for a relay with a protection diode, connect this to the remote cable to switch the relay on and off, this allows the 12V + (which you might take from the amp or elsewhere) to power the fans. |
Silver Member Username: Supraspyder420Sammamish, Wa U.S. Post Number: 103 Registered: Jul-05 | The fans i bought have 3 wires. Black, red, and yellow. is the yellow a remote? because i might just be able to connect it to the remote for the amp. but if its not then where can i get a relay with a protection diode? |

Bronze Member Username: MlongprePost Number: 32 Registered: Jun-05 | i want to do something like that as well...but my fan only has two wires. What is a relay? and where would i get it? |
Bronze Member Username: ShocksydePost Number: 34 Registered: Apr-05 | the 3rd wire on some computer fans is a RPM speed wire. you will not need/use this wire in a car application |
Gold Member Username: CarguyPost Number: 3762 Registered: Nov-04 | You can get the 12v relay from any car audio shop, including walmart/Radio Shack etc. Very cheap, around $5 or less. You can use the remote wire as the "trigger" wire for it. Then use the relay to supply the power to amp's remote wire connector and other devices that need power/triggering. |
