i am about to buy a jl audio w7 and was wondering what the best amp would be? 500/1, 1000/1, or e1800d. How much dodes the 500/1 acutually push out.. i heard close to 700 rms? would it be worth it to spend the extra money to get the 1000/1? and what about the e1800d, which i know very little about. Or any other with quality close to JL?

thanx, peace

well you gotta remeber that jl amps are built to put out a minimum off the power advertised no matter the voltage or load.....so under favorable conditions i have hear the 1000/1 puts out 2200 watts rms at 13.7volts and 1.5 ohm load.....but the e1800d is an entry level and it puts that much power out under really favorable conditions...people can bash the w7 for use in spl comps and i see why but the amps are strong in any respect and i use a 500/1 and it hits hard enough in my firebird to vibrate my eyes around when it hits...... i would got for atleast 500 watts rms no matter the amp for a w7 but if you put more it's fine as long as you watch your distortion and you tune the amp right and have the power to feed the amps!!

Both amps will work well with that sub. The 1000/1 is a little more than needed, but I can't say to much. Its the same amp I have pushing my 12W7.

As for the power of each amp, they will give you what they are rated at, and then some. The slash series amps (1000/1 500/1 and so one) puts out the same amount of wattage at 12 13 or 14 volts no matter what the ohm rating you are running (1.5 to 4 ohm). So no the 1000/1 will not put out 2200 watts rms at 13.7 volts. I could see 1100 or maybe a little more as a possibablity, but not 2200.

As for the 1800D, it is a great amp also. It doesn't have some of the goodies that have made the slash amps so well known. However 650 watts or so RMS at 3 ohms would push a 12W7 pretty well.

Personally I am running the Slash series amps, and am very happy, but if your trying to save money the E series will do you just fine.

Okay, i think i am going to get the 500/1. Then would i be better off getting a 10w7 instead of the 12 inch. how much better will the 12w7 sound at the same rms?

Both the 10W7 and the 12W7 will work great. Especiall if you port the 12w7 which i whould recommend for optimum output from a 500/1.

12W7 and 500/1 will POUND, but if you can afford it, go with the 13W7 and 1000/1.

idk if this sounds right but since the 12w7runs at 750 and the 500/1 will only get that much out of the sub will a capacitor make up for some of the un-used wattage on the sub
