if i have 2 12" dvc 800wrms subs do i need an amp that pushes 800 watts at 2 ohms or at 4 ohms?

the amp should push that at either 4ohm or 1ohm (if your subs' ratings are accurate).

A dual 4 ohm runs at 8 ohm series and 2 ohm parallel. your thinking of dual 2 ohm mikechec9

well actually it depends do you want to run them together on the same channel or on seperate channels.

The easiest thing to do would to wire them in parallel to get a 1 ohm load then find an amp that puts out around 1600 watts x 1 at 1 ohm.

whether you mean you have two subs with a total of 800w or you mean 800w/sub, you can either bridge an amp (like my soundstream vga 1600.2 if you can find one) at 4ohms, or run it at 1ohm. as i originally stated, your options are 4ohms or 1ohm.
at such a low impedence of 1ohm, i would agree with mike and run a class D amp, unless you want all the changes that go with an a/b or a.
