thanks for all the help so far, but i have another question...planning on putting my new IDMAX12 into a slot-ported box, with the MTX801D amp. this amp has no subsonic filter.

if my box is properly tuned (30 or so) do i still need to use an f-mod? does an f-mod work as well as a subsonic filter? will it alter impedence at all? I read an old thread (Fishy) that confused me a bit. does anyone know about this?? will i ruin the sub if i put it in a good box with no f-mod, or does it change sound, or what?? Thanks!

Yes, you'll need some kind of subsonic filter. The fmods will work perfectly. If your box is tuned to 30 hz, then pick one up that's set at 25 - 20 hz, high pass.

"does an f-mod work as well as a subsonic filter?" - Yes, it is a subsonic filter...

"will it alter impedence at all?" - No, it has nothing to do with the wiring of the sub, fmods plug inline with the rca cables

It's still not a bad idea to have one. Even if it is set at like 20.
