I had bought a set of Infinity reference 6x9" 100Watt RMS 300Watt Peak - and ran these off a prety grim amp which was 100Watt per channel - after a little time at high volume both speakers have died - main cone doesnt move at all. Has anyone else had problems liek this or any idea what i shoudl do before i chuck another set of 6x9" on there?

maybe clipped the amp which sent an electrical signal to the speakers and fried the voice coil, i personally have had my infinity 6x9 for a real long time hooked up to an amp for about 5 months so far and havent had a single problem with them, i did though turn the bass down a little on the amp so the speakers only receive the midbass.
go with a better amp and take notice of how much distortion comes from the woofer and if you have to: TURN IT DOWN anyone knows you cant run major bass off of smaller speakers

turn down the gain on the amp.
it was clipping and causing distortion which caused the voice coils to overheat and fry.
gain is not a volume knob. higher isn't better.
