HI all I got 2 MTX 8000 10" subs in a ported box connected to a MXA 4001 amp into 2ohms and gain set to half way on the amp

The subs sound fine at low volumes but when there is mid to high excursion from the sub it makes a sound thats if its pharting

Why are the subs sounding like that? is there a defect or bad box?

It could be distortion, your gonna have to explain this pharting sound more....

(I am getting really mad at this forum's filters... you can't say pharting... are we in 3rd grade?)

lol I know,I had to get creative...
When the cross over is at higher level say around 150 and the sub is forced into to doing some excursion at say 3.5mm each way it will start to have this heavy breathing sound and a high pitch muffeled one as well. But when I set the cross over to 50Hz its not as bad but can still be noticed when at mid to high volumes

The box is 29*11.5*11(measured from the inside and the port is 7.5*7*1.5

hope this might be some help

Well, you probably are clipping the amp, wich causes distortion to the subs. Each 8000 is 400 watts rms.

Ehh, not too bad. I had 1, I ran it with an MTX 311D, 320 watts rms. Listen carefully to the music, and see if you can hear distortion or not. If it's bad enough you should be able to. I know there's someway to meter if your amps are clipping, not sure what you gotta do though. I would probably think of getting a bigger amp though.

It is a good sub, they compare it to the JL w7, but it isn't as good.
The 10's are close, but the bigger you get, the more JL sound's better.

Pretty much. The 9500 isn't bad, the best of the MTX line. Most of the subs in it's class will probably out do it though.

I dobt they'd match the w7's. If your looking for something somewhat in the w7 league, and with awsome sq, look into the w6v2's. They're supposedly the best sounding subs out there right now. You can also try Image Dynamics IDMAX, their known for their exceptional Sound quality.

Yeah sub, I checked that jackhammer out. It seems like it would be more practical than the Audiobahn 36". Who know's how it sounds though. You wouldn't think it would have the fastest respones with a 22" cone though, but it should be loud...

i think that if i could aford it i would buy it but really were you going to put it. (with the proper sized box) I heard from some were that you have to sign a release form that mtx is not responsible for any damages

Cory I think u should try putting it in a sealed box even if it is a cheap one. that should get rid of the sound I think.

HA. I didn't even realize you had a ported box...

You're probably also hearing port noise. In fact that's definitely part of the problem.

...to reduce port noise...build a bigger port....whats happening is the air coming out of the box doesnt have a large enough space to exit the box, hence the port noise your probably hearing. try going sealed, or rebuilding your ported box with a different size/tuned port...

you can do that, ull have to make the seal extremely tight. use some kind of qorking. screw on the MDF then qork the edges. (not sure if qork is spelled right but u know what im sayin right)
