My main requirements for this unit are that it has a very good power amp, good sound quality, and a 3-band EQ (I prefer to use a 3-band instead of 7 bands or some other number). I do not need a whole lot of features; a simple unit is just fine. I will be using the four stock speakers in my 2005 Civic coupe for the time being, although I will probably upgrade later; I want to have a nice powerful amp to run these speakers. I understand that most of the power output ratings for head units are mostly bullsh*t numbers, so I am just going to buy based on recommendation, not on the numbers that the manufacturer's list. I have a Bazooka 8" powered sub, so the head unit will need an un-powered output for that.
