Alright, sice i'm rebuilding my system in the coming months, (spring time install starts) I am looking to get a X.XX and an amp, i'm leaning towards the JBL GTO 1200.1 amp, its 1200x1 at 2 ohms, i'm not possitive on this so i need an answer, the X.XX comes in dual 1 ohm voice coil as well, what can i wire that too, couldn't i wire it to 2 ohms? I would get the Dual 2 ohm and wire it to 1 ohm but i'd still rather not run an amp at 1 ohm even if it is 1 ohm stable just because...superstition
You can't wire all the coils to 2 ohms on either coil config, the dual 2 or quad 1.... however you can run only one coil on the dual 2 or 2 coils on the quad 1 for a 2 ohm load. this will not damage the speaker mechanically. but It will reduce thermal capacity. the advantage to doing this is you can control the Qts of the speaker, using a potentiometer. (why Im telling you this...I dont know...)
For simplicities sake, get the dual 1 ohm, and wire it in series for a 2 ohm load.
