New member Username: FishPost Number: 10 Registered: Oct-04 | hey guys.... i want to get a head unit for my system... its the last component i need, then i can finally install it all... i have a 1994 audi 100s and the stock system isn't too bad but there is no bass (so i got got a sub and amp) and it has a tape deck. i am thinking for spending around $200 and i am thinking of ordering from crutchfield... I am seriosly considering the Sony CDX-F5700 ($199.99) or the Sony CDX-F5705X ($209.99) are these any good? I like the idea of the sonys beacuse they have good reviews, and they have an aux input so with an rca to 1/8th" addapter i can plug my ipod it... (this is a VERY key feature to me and many of the other units around $200 need speacial addapert ect.) Crutchfield also says i should get the PAC OEM-2 Universal Factory Sound System Interface (fit to a 94 audi 90 but that shoud'nt make a difference... do i even need one of these? the sonys also include a $50 discount on speakers but i think i need to order two sets, my friends tell me my stock speakers sound about the same as their after market ones and my speakers sound quality will improve once my sub is in, beacuse they won't need to play base tones. should i bother to upgrade to the cheapest sonys or are they no better thean my stock set? (damn... there also out of stock!) |

Bronze Member Username: FishPost Number: 12 Registered: Oct-04 | thanks for the tips about sony sucking... ok so.... im getting the pansonic i think.... and yea i did notice (see the post above yours) that crutchfield blows.... |
Bronze Member Username: FishPost Number: 13 Registered: Oct-04 | that would be this one... http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=12198 |

Search for that one, or for a Clarion on ebay, even cheaper there. Make sure they buyer is covered by PayPal buyer protection and make sure to pay with PayPal, too. |
Bronze Member Username: FishPost Number: 14 Registered: Oct-04 | thanks for all the tips... it looks like im gunna get that panasonic from online car stereo... im still not sure weather i need a wiring harness adapter thing or if its just as eays to cut wires and stuff... also would i plug my speaker (stock) into the pre amp outs or the regular out? i have an 800 watt amp.... which install kit should i get? I a looking at these above 800watt kits because these shady companies probably over right their kits and i may upgrade soon. i want to get it from this site to keep things simple... Boss Audio KIT-30 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=14316 or Absolute KIT1200 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=13766 or Absolute KITCAP2000 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=13864 |

Bronze Member Username: FishPost Number: 15 Registered: Oct-04 | thanks.... should i get a kit that can handle a lot more wattage than im gunna give it (for now) or is it better wait and upgrade my wiring when i upgrade my whole system? and are the kits a link to just total crap or what? |
Silver Member Username: OlegSanta Monica, CA USA Post Number: 131 Registered: Nov-04 | try to get like a 4gauge kit and a distribution block. Have the 4ga power wire go to the distribution block and from there, leave whatever size wire your amps require |
Silver Member Username: OlegSanta Monica, CA USA Post Number: 132 Registered: Nov-04 | i meant lead* whatever size wire your amps require |
Gold Member Username: GlasswolfNorthWest, Michigan USA Post Number: 6236 Registered: Dec-03 | yeah 4ga is good up to 125A of current, so for 800 watts that'd be fine. only drawback to going bigger is cost and difficulty of routing it |
Silver Member Username: OlegSanta Monica, CA USA Post Number: 133 Registered: Nov-04 | Depends how much power you want and on your budget. 4GA should be more than enough. |
Gold Member Username: GlasswolfNorthWest, Michigan USA Post Number: 6276 Registered: Dec-03 | not really "more than enough" to be frank. 800 watts of power can be upwards of 95A of current draw. At an average of about 15 to 20 feet of run from a battery to a trunk, you'd need 4ga. 8ga wouldn't be rated to handle that much current, and could cause potential shorts due to heat melting the insulation off the cable. 4ga is just right for an 800 watt system. my old car ran 820wRMS total for the system, and used 4ga from the battery as well. worked just right. |

Bronze Member Username: FishPost Number: 17 Registered: Oct-04 | one more question.... should i get a harness addaper or not? (remember im keeping the main speaker stock)... i don't want to cut ANY stock wires. |
Gold Member Username: GlasswolfNorthWest, Michigan USA Post Number: 6358 Registered: Dec-03 | absolutely. I hate cutting wires behind the radio unless I absolutely have to. use harness adapters. it's well worth the $10 |
