I have 12gauge wire leading from amp to the box. But I used 16gauge to wire the coils...should that be ok or should I use 12gauge for that too? Also, I need about 1700watts for my amp, and my lights do dim. Would a 2farad capacitor give me enough power or is it just gonna solve the dimming lights? I have an optima group 51 yellow top.
Hey Oleg, I hope you have a HO alternator. Without that, you're going to have light dimming problem. A capacitor won't fix it. After your battery gets discharged, it won't help. As for your speaker wires, 12gauge is fine. If you're worried about the wire on the coil, put 12gauge but it shouldn't make any difference. The speakers/subs are not high current/voltage devices. For 1700W amp, you'll need at least 150A alternator.
Yes the wire is okay. As for 2F capacitor, it won't help with the lights dimming. Your amp is sucking up too much current. At low volume, the capacitor will provide the current the amp needs but as you increase the setting, it won't be able to meet amp's demand.
