Hello, I'm about to buy a car speaker system ( 2-coaxial mids, 2-tweeter, crossover) but I don't know if I should buy a Nakamichi or Focal system. Both systems are around $200, don't remember the model numbers.

Could someone please shed some light here? Which one would you recommend? I'm not a specialist as you can see ;)

That is quite a jump. That's like asking...should I get an Escort or a Cadillac (notice I did not say Porsche)?

Nak is not known for their speakers. They make fine receivers and their top line of amps are pretty good. Focal is a pretty darn good speaker manufacturer. Make sure they fit in your doors. The magnets and housings are huge, unless you buy the "slim" series. Nak will be cheaper, though.

I wouldn't call the Naks an escort though :-) I too am not that crazy about their speakers, their head unitsare nice though. You should always listen to them and see what you like, the cheaper Focals aren't quite as good IMO, you could also look into CDT, Infinity, Diamond Audio and JL.

What does IMO means?

About the Nakamichi speakers, I heard a 6.5 coax 2 way speakers mounted on a board in a shop and they sound great to my ears. The other model I listen to was the JL coax 6.5 two way (I think it was the TR650) and they both sound pretty close. But i'm far from being an expert...

hey, you can hear a nuance in sound just as good as the rest of us. personal opinion is key. it's not about what your friends like, the experts like, etc. It's about your eardrums and your soundstage. IMO-in my opinion
