Can't find what I'm looking for

I've owned a pair of 10's, a pair of 12's, and now I have a single 15. It seems like the pair of 12's produced the best sounding bass both sq and spl. Am I wrong? Because I'm thinking about going back to two 12's or should I try two 15's or maybe a single 18. I'm looking for tight and clean hits with volume and resonance. Any advice?

BTW I have a Kicker kx1200.1 with an s15L5 in a 2.0 cu ft box sealed. I have them wired to run a 1 ohm but it seems like they're not hitting as hard as my 12's which were running on 500W RMS. Shouldn't I be able to blow the L5 with the amp that I have? Am I expecting too much or is this the limitation to this setup?

the two twelves would most likely have the greatest surface area, and combined excursion.
I'm a big fan of twelves myself.. going to a single fifteen, you'll lose some SPL.. same with the tens, but the tens would probably sound a bit snappier though not nearly as deep.
