I was thinking about getting either the MTX thunder 801D or the 1500D but i didn't know if the 1500 would over power them...it is rated at 750 X 1 at 4 ohms...the subs take 800 rms.. 2 MTX 8000 10's...and i didn't want to underpower them with the 801D b/c it is rated at 400 X 1 at 4 ohms..What does everyone else think. Is the 801D to little or is the 1500D to big?

the 801d and 1501d are 2 channel amps and an 801d will pound the hell out of 2 mtx 8000 10's

if your subs can run at 2 ohms the 801d will do 800 watts wired in parallel to the mono channel of the amp.

trust me that 1501D will pound the hell out of them 10s to. you will be pushing 1000 watts per speaker, the 1501 is 1500 rms.. But thats at 2 ohms.

An 801D will power your subs perfectly, 1500 is pushing your limits. I think you're looking at the peak rating, the MTX 8000 10" subs are 400W RMS, at a 2 ohm load an 801D is perfect for them as it'll give each sub 400W RMS.
