I've been trying to use my JVC with my Desktop PC to capture DV only to have little luck.My cable for this setup is an NXG brand whereas my 6p-4p for the Desk unit is a Straitec brand. I just got my 4p-4p firewire cable and hooked it up to my Compaq laptop and it worked as true plug/play with both Win. Movie Maker and Muvee AP3.5 SE. I don't think the cables are the issue since the PC now captures video using the ImageMixer program (came with JVC), Straitec cable, USB only, and installing ImageMixer 4 times per instructions from JVC. My firewire in the PC is OHCI and TI chip. Maybe the firewire card is not set up properly, Windows says it's working. I'm going to query Compaq further to figure it out. I don't know why I'm capturing DV through USB, it contradicts all I've read on the subject, but it works and I can burn VCD's on the laptop as a backup.
