So I think I blew the default speakers that came with my car, I only hear sound from the back of the car, not from either door.

My car is a 2008 Cobalt LS and I think it says the door speakers are 6 1/2

My deck is the Alpine iDA-X305.

I have no knowledge about car speakers or anything, I just know I want something between maybe $200-$400 tho i'm willing to dish more if needed since this is a christmas present but I don't wanna kill my parents too much so I guess I could pitch in if it's pricey. I dunno about amps or anything like that either tho maybe I'd get this as well. Would like to order these online, Bestbuy seems like a rip-off (I'm in Ontario, Canada).

Edit: PS In terms of installing them I will just find a mechanic or someone to do this, it felt like Bestbuy hit me hard to install that Alpine deck.

Yes front speakers are 6 1/2" and rear are 6x9"

Probably you blew the front speakers but is not common to blow both at the same time, you may want to test the output of your HU with some other speakers.

If you are buying new high quality speakers you may want to buy an amplifier to take any advantage from them:

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_33002_MB-Quart-FX2.60.html

If you want to use the rear speakers change them as well and get a 4 channel amplifier instead.

There are many great speakers in the 200-400 range:
including: Focal, Rainbow, Morel, DLS, HAT, Hertz, CDT, to name a few of the great ones.

Think about if you want to upgrade everything or not or else and I will suggest accordingly.

Wow thats a pretty good deal ^^ is that a good amp or low budget amp? just curious ^^ (not even sure what the amp does, just thinkin it makes music sound better)

Guess I'll get an Amp + 2 front door speakers, do you have any suggestions of the speakers tho?

Front speakers usually require above 50W RMS per channel of clean undistorted power to work properly, your head unit can provide around 18W of RMS power, so the amp will provide the power and also will sound MUCH better than using the head unit power.

That amp is inexpensive but clean sounding and does rated power. This line of amps have been used with success even with higher end speakers.

I recommend component speakers over standard coaxials, but I need to ask you to mention any speakers that you liked to better understand your taste or even the kind of music you listen.

Im not exactly sure how your factory Speakers blew however, it might be worth checking the wires behind your Alpine Head Unit to make sure that nothing has become disconnected. Wouldn't want to purchase new Speakers and figure out it was a simple wiring issue.

I've worked on Cobalts myself, and they are very easy to work on. Best Buy does overcharge a lot for what little work they have to do. I would suggest getting your hands a little dirty, and do it yourself to save money and time.

As far as replacing the speakers go, if your only going to be replacing the front Speakers and leaving the factory rear Speakers installed, it would just make more sense if you just reinstall factory OEM Speakers. There cheap and match up with the rear Speakers.

If you plan on replacing all the factory Speakers, which is what I would recommend, there are a few differen't paths to go. You can either just purchase lower grade Speakers and power them through your Alpine Head Unit, or purchase higher end Speakers and install an Amplifier to give them more RMS Wattage for better sound like Joe Durkham mentioned above.

If you just want to purchase Speakers alone and on a budget, this is what I would recommend:

Infinity Reference 6032si: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_18904_Infinity-Reference-6032si.html

Infinity Reference 9633cf: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_18906_Infinity-Reference-9633cf.html

If you are looking to spend a bit of money and take your Audio to the next level by installing an Amplifier but still on a budget, I would recommend the following:

Infinity Kappa 63.9i: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_13447_Infinity-Kappa-63.9i.html

Infinity Kappa 693.9I: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_13965_Infinity-Kappa-693.9I.html

Alpine MRX-F30: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_34359_Alpine-MRX-F30.html

Kicker ZCK84: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_17765_Kicker-ZCK84-09ZCK84.html

Nah I'm not on a budget, so feel free to throw out some speakers and etc. I wanted to replace the factory speakers to begin with. I really don't wanna install it myself, if it was a computer part it would be easy as pie, but this sort of thing I dont wanna mess with XD

So far I have this:

+

If anyone else has any other suggestions fire away, if not I guess I will order those 2 things.

The setup I suggested above with the Amplifier is all together. A set of 6.5" Speakers, a set of 6x9" Speakers, Amplifier and Amplifier Wiring Kit. It would be everything you need to replace all the factory Speakers and installing an Amplifier.

Im not sure if saying that a budget is not a concern on eCoustics. People here may tend to throw out rediculously high priced items, lol.

Is there any way you can just tell us a cap limit on what you would want to spend on replacing all factory Speakers and adding an Amplifier?

Ok Colin you are really missing front door speakers there. Since yours are blown.

Also the amp you picked is a 4 channel, 4 speakers for a 4 channel amp.

Also Infinity speakers are good sounding but tend to lack bass as compared with many alternatives.

If you are on a 200-400 budget you can do better.

For example:

http://www.amazon.com/Morel-Maximo-inch-component-system/dp/B0035FZJEO

And that still leaves you with a lot of money to pick a proper amp.

Rear speakers are not generally recommended usually a small subwoofer gives much better results.

@Joe

So the 696 ones would go on my from doors, and the 63.9 would go on my back doors?

Edit: For some reason when i wanted to check the shipping costs it says "We can no longer ship Kicker products outside the US." would have to pick this up somewhere local I guess or from another website.

The other way but it's the same if you get both. If they don't ship the Kicker cable get a diferent brand, RF, JL Audio.. etc.

Could you link me to one of those?

Also, is there a big difference to have speakers in all 4 doors rather then just the 2 that are factory? Also whats the speaker thats coming from the back of my car where I can still hear sound, is that thing in the trunk or somethin?

Can be this one:

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_38907_Stinger-SK6681.html

You must have 2 speakers in the front doors and 2 in the rear deck, if you happen to have speakers in the rear doors I would recommend to just disconnect them.

Those you still hear must be the factory 6x9s in the rear deck of your car and will be replaced with the ones you are buying.

Okay so:

Stinger-SK6681
Infinity-Kappa-693.9I
Infinity-Kappa-63.9i
Alpine-MRX-F30.html

It's okay to add these to my cart and order?

The equipment match perfectly.

It will sound very nice and clean but It won't give a lot of bass though, if you don't mind that it's all fine equpiment to have.

Looking at Best buy for an example, looks like it will cost like $150-$200 min just to install everything, figured I would save some money and try to install this myself.

with a little help I did manage to get the back panel (for the back speakers off) and 1 door off so far. I've taken out the old speakers but in terms of wiring now I'm confused cause this isn't like a computer (which for me would be easy pie).

I guess I have to cut the wire off the old speaker and split it or something? Also on the Kappa speakers it says In and out with a + and a - I have no idea what this means, nor would I know if a cord is suppose to be a positive or a negative if this is the case.

Also, with the back panel I took off to get to the old speakers, do I have to cut a hole in the shape of the speaker or something? It seems like its made of metal wire I dunno, Any ideas?

You need to connect all your 4 speakers to the Alpine amp, which usually goes in the trunk and is connected with the wiring kit you ordered.

It's a lot of wiring, and maybe you will need to cut metal on the rear deck, I would probably have that done.
