Rockford is not known for their subs, and Sony is not know for...well anything. With $1,500 to work with there are a ton of great sounding options.

Few more questions:

How much RMS (watts) did you want to run?

How much space do you have to work with?

Do you want more sound quality (SQ) or loudness (SPL)?

Is the $1500 for an amp, wiring, box, and subs? Or did you want to put some mids and coaxials in as well?

Two RF P3's do 1000 RMS I believe.

If you want to stay around 1000, the first sub that comes to mind to me is a 15" Fi BL ($400).

Give it ~4 cubes and tune it to ~30-35 hertz.

A hifonics bxi1606d ($250) is a pretty common amp to power this sub.

There are a bunch of other options though.

Some good brands to check out that come to mind would be:

Fi

AudioQue
Revolution Designs (RD)

And dammit stay out of best buy!

Don't get caught up in wattage. RMS is the rated power, and it is what everyone that knows anything about car audio goes by.

Yes your p3's advertise 1000 watts, but that is really 500 RMS a sub, so 1000 RMS total.

The Fi Bl does is a suggested 1000 RMS sub, but can do more. 1600 RMS is a common number to run them at, and if you get power options like flatwind coil, there is no way your blowing them.

Once you get in the 2000+ RMS range you have to start thinking about upgrading your battery and alternator, so keep that in mind.

Also remember that a good system is nothing without a good head unit. Pioneer, Alpine, and Clarion.

Not many people suggest JL because there's better out there for the money. They are a good sub, but the brands I recommended will get louder and sound better doing it for the same price, or even less.
