Mechman quoted $600 for a 250a alt. for a 08 altima coupe. I remember looking around for an alt for my cavalier about a year ago and they weren't near this high. Guess different models are more difficult to make? Anyways, are Mechmans worth it or should i look around for cheaper?

I got quoted $750 for a 250A alt for my car so yea, they are expensive for certain cars.

Mechman does make solid alts though.

It does seem that alternators for newer vehicles cost more than an older vehicle. A 07 Chrysler 300 300A costs around $600 from what I have seen. And the motor size really didn't matter, the prices weren't very far apart. Now, a 300A for a 99 Yukon/Tahoe & 98 GM/Chevy Truck runs for less than $500.

i have a mechman alt and it is great

as far as price - you will always have to shop around

get quotes from other companies to see how pricing stacks up

$600 does seem kinda steep. Does it have any special options on it...?

I would call around and see what MCR, excessive amerage, irragi, dc power, and ohio generators have to offer.

Ive owned a 250amp MCR, 300amp excessive amerage, and a 220amp irragi and all of them worked fine. My favorite was the MCR tho.

Try MCR see if they have anything for less.

But if not you do what ya gotta do..... better than not having an HO alt at all.

Mechman makes good alts, and gives you a dyno sheet to show you what it's really doing. I'm not familiar with your vehicle but many newer vehicles can really get up there in price.

I'd call ohio gen and dc power, but after my experience with Iraggi I would never use him again, or recommend him.

Mechman 250 vs Iraggi 380 :-)

ohio gen ftw!

an alt for my golf was crazy high! but one for my blazer was cheap.

i ended up taking a gamble and getting a 210 amp for 200 dollars on ebay.
i got lucky it gets aabout 150 at idle (small pully)

u can risk ebay but a lot of those companys will sell u something that wont put out the amps u need. try ohio gen.

u might have to pay al ot because of the care though

Its lasted me two years, still going strong. I rock 14.8 volts regularly.

My car is old though, 1988

For any american made vehicles you will not beat DB Electrical for most vlaue for the $..... but for imports there are other good companies like mechman and MCR.

D-Money, I'm in the same boat as you. There are so many ways he cheated me, I'll just say he left a bitter taste in my mouth for him and his company.

Good luck getting anything from him- like a call or an email let alone your $1000.

So M.S. mentioned DB for american cars/trucks. Anyone else know anything about DB? They have a 200+ for my expedition for $200 which is way cheap. I just dont want to waste any money.

I have installed several of their alternators for people and have one in my own truck. Great quality, no problems.

And very good customer service also, called them with just some general questions.

They are quite popular on some of the chevy forums.

Wow, thats just sad. The more and more I think about it im wantin one of those mechmans everyone has been talking about. If my Irragi does crap out I will use my refunded money from him (its still under warranty and he WILL refund my money) to buy a Mechman.

Hope it all works out for you. How much longer does he have to pay up?
