u all know i have a wall and i am redoing it... after having it for a month.

so ill prolly have new subs this summer. but when i was looking at what i could do one of my old freinds (big into spl) told me that i would do better with only 2 15s other than 4. i didn't understand y.
i didn't get to talk to him long at all but he said something about the subs not getting full potental because the don't have the room.
what he does is makes his boxes usually around twice the cuft that is recomended for each sub.
so one 18 in 15cuft would be as good or better than 4 15s in the same area? that is what i am getting from what he said.

any one know anything about this? i know that its all try and try again but i don't want to buy more subs if i will get louder with less

i am not talking about power. like 1 18 4000 watts or 4 15s 4000watts

There is no way in hell one 18" is louder than 4 15"s. Assuming there they have the needed box space.

i am thinking he is saying a box twice the size of what is recomended is best. doing that would be louder than a pair of subs with recomended cuft.

idk. i thought that some one on the site my be able to explain. maybe he is wrong

It depends what your goal is but going to large on the box can hurt your spl.

i am talking spl only.
i have nothing to do put try it... with smaller stuff. this summer ill learn a lot. with that 18 BL i am going to try 4 cuft 8 cuft and something big like 15cuft

i guessing trying everything is the best. there is so many things people tell me and idk what to believe and what to laugh at

Why does the 9918z kill every other setup out there? Hmmm, I'm pretty sure the guys right below him are using more than 4 15s and still can't come close. Someone needs to be schooled.

mistake most ppl make is trying to fit too many subs which sometimes ends up in each sub not getting a good amt of cuft to operate in ...2 subs in correct cuft\port installed correctly will kill 4 subs in not so idea conditions ......

There is no set cuft that every sub likes for SPL. There are just too many factors to say [sub here] needs [space here] to be the loudest it can be. It will depend on the vehicle and power.

How do you find the space that your subs need in your vehicle with your power to be loud?

LOTS OF TESTING!

Try to find some competitors that have your vehicle to see what box it likes. Also find some that run the subs you want to use and see what they have to say about thier performace SPL wise.

Very few get it right the first 2 or 3 times. SPL isn't cheap, and sure isn't quick.

so what i am going to do is make a really big box for this 18. like a 10 or 12 cuft box.
cut an inch out and burp it and find the best Hz. from that add a .5cuft box and attach to the inside of the box and do the math and make the port tuned to the same thing that was best.
keep putting .5cuft peices in and i should find the best cuft for it .

good idea?

nick is right. if no one has a car like yours just start from scratch. and one important thing to have while you are testing is a pen and pad. write down every change you do, at what volume is does this. and so on and so forth.
