Hi, im looking for a pair or 6 x 9 speakers and i found this:
http://www.pioneer.com.sg/products/ca_speakers/ts_a6990s.asp

is pioneer the top dog in 6 x 9 or is there better?

it says 80watts nominal input does that mean i need an 80watts rms x 2 amp even if its max is 400watts?

i am after SPL so a better model or advice on this one will really help,

please assist,

Luc

They are defintely not top of the line but they are a very good speaker with good quality. If your looking for spl they will do since spl is strictly how loud you can be and the 6X9s are not gonna reproduce bass so if you just want clean soudn they will work but their are better out there but not for the money IMO.

Also never look at max. Well you would be better off with like 100X2 rms amp. More power is alwasy better then not enough as this will allow you to run the amp at a lower setting or lower your gains and run more efficent.

How much do you wanna spend and if your going for spl then these would be fine as you would wanna spend more in the sub dept then the highs.

Actually I would go away from the oval shape speaker and go with a round speaker. They can make a template to fit. So look for a nice compment set by like mb quart or some nice infinity kappas and you will be set.

I would put your kickers in the back and put those above in the front. What amp are you gonna be running these off of. YOu need at least 100X2 rms amp to have these sound good.

Get good 6.5" midbass drivers. Image Dynamics and Adire Kodas make nice ones. You don't want treble in the rear of the car anyway, kills the front soundstage. Oval speakers aren't as good as round ones, like davids said.
