I've talked to 3 separate retailers, all of whom have said the 990 is gonna replace the 980 in 2 weeks. They all said that Pioneer hasn't told them anything about the upgrades though. I had just ordered a 980 so I'm looking to exchange it for the 990 if it's available...but i dono anything about the upgrades. Anyone have any inside information? Apparently Pioneer is being as a top secret as they possibly can.........i think they should have just released the damn thing at CES....

Hey, I have been bugging pioneers support team since the beginning on january. I got...

"We don't know"
"We won't know till after CES"
"We won't know until spring"
"It will come out in the spring".

A lot of places are out of stock on the 980bt. Not even one on ebay as I write this. I have had the 900 920 930 and currently have the 940mp. I skipped the 960 because it was ugly as hell (IMO). I love the 940mp and it's 6.5v preouts but it treats the pioneer sirius tuner as a unknown external unit. I hope the retailers you spoke to are correct and it will be out in another week, but I have a feeling it won't come out until I give in a get a 980bt. BTW I seen used ones on ebay going off for MORE then the new ones!

well i called pioneer a couple days ago. my original order was placed with abt electronics out of chicago. i had been patiently waiting for about a month when it was originally stated as a 7-14 day backorder. well they finally told me its gonna be another month for the radio to come in. so i was obviously pissed. i went ahead and gave pioneer a call to complain, get an update, and a reason why it was taking so long. i told the lady how 2 sources had told me the 990 was coming. she said no. she said she got a list from her boss that morning and that the new models were all the 90 versions from like 190 or 290 all the way up to 790 (of which will now have bluetooth on it, but no full color screen). she said a 990 was not included on that list. crutchfield is listing the in stock dates of the 9800 as march 6th. so something tells me that they might not be bringing the 990 out afterall, otherwise crutchfield would probably already have a 9900 on their site for pre-order. im resigned to think ill be receiving a 980, but id like to see a 990. then again...they killed the screen and the dropped the 5v to 4v on the 790 so maybe a 980 wouldnt be so bad after all. i just want that damn automatic eq and TA. if they do bring out a 990 and it sucks then ill go with the 880. i would love to have the screen though.....
