well thats as far as my knowlege goes so far dont wanna steer ya in the wrong direction, but first pick out some subs then people can tell you what to tune them to, and tuning has to do with the box design. and u only need to tune it if ur going ported, so find the subs you want and go from there. if you take my advice on the type r's get a nice 1200 watt amp ( lots will back up the r's ) like the ed nine.1 or the kicker kx1200.1
type r's are good sql cvrs are more spl and dont sound nearly as clean as the r's, but not sure bout the other subs he posted, get some feedback from ppl who have heard lots of them

yea i dunno if i wanna go ported or not because my car is a 1985 camaro hatch and there is a cubbie in the very back and i dunno if the box would be big enough for 12s with a ported enclosure, u mean 1200rms right. i was thinkin about a hifonics amp

Sealed = ~4 dB less than ported but tighter bass
Ported = Louder, lower, boomier bass

Your choice

i was hopin you would say sealed haha tuning the box seems confusing, i wouldnt have a problem with buiding the box but i dunno about the tuning wat should i tune it to. i want boomie bass, i have another question so lower the frequency the lower the bass? and i dont really ge dB so if a subs is 90db and another sub is 87dB would the 90dB be louder i dont really get that

if u port loooow like 30/32Hz u can get VERY NICE tight accurate bass like i'm currently getting with my RS

if u port higher like 35/36hz & up the u will get boomier & lose some SQ .......

Db = deci-bell = 1/10 of a bell

Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone. It had a speaker. In order to measure its efficiency per given watt, Alexander Graham Bell invented the "bell" unit of measure. Since this measure was too great for rating a speaker, it had to be fractioned. What better way then the metric system. So he divided them into tenths, therefore deci-bell.

Sound Pressure Level is measured in decibels.

Yes sound is measured by the pressure it generates, and therefore pushing on our eardrums.

So a 87 dB speaker will be softer than a 90 decibel speaker, given that they are capable of handling the same wattage, have the same resistence (ohms) and are the same in all other aspects other than efficiency (dBs).

Correction;

Bell and decibel
The bel (B) is a unit of measurement originally proposed by 1929 W. H. Martin of Bell Labs (Bell System Techn. Jrnl. VIII. 2) and named after Bell. The bel was too large for everyday use, so the decibel (dB), equal to 0.1 B, became more commonly used.
